November 1971

November 1, 1971
Two months of school. It doesn't seem like it. Just think only 7 months left (groan). I stuffed myself with candy all day just about. Highwaters & Long John's were ill today and we had a good movie in Biology on reproduction & Highwaters at least should have seen it. We had a test in English. Oh groan. I think Mike (Hoss) likes me and I like him too, but just for a friend. After school I bought Ranele's chess set and we played a game. We didn't get to finish it tho'. I don' t think either of us would have won, it was kinda like a cat game. Ray is back "home" again. Cheryl came over and I went to Pathfinders (church youth club similar to Boy/Girl Scouts) with her and then we played some chess. She won - anyway she would have.

November 2
Highwaters and Long John's were sick again today, so I bugged Hoss all day and I think he got a little perturbed. I wore my coulottes today and Michele's mom (the school secretary) called me into the office and made me go home and change them and I have always worn them before. I hate her sooo much. Just because of a record (In-a-gadda-da-vida) she has to hold a grudge and try to get back at me. After school today, I played Ranele a game of chess while Michele trimmed my hair - it sure needed it - I won't cut it again until around Christmas. I had a whole mess of homework tonight, but I didn't feel like doing it. But I tried to make myself. I can't think of anything else that I did today except blah, and I'm reading a book.

November 3
Long Johns came to school! (Number one shock of the year) and all the girls swarmed around him and I think it was funny. But wait until Highwaters gets back. We had a test in Religion today and I probably flunked. This morning before school, Too Much came over and we pulled all kinds of dirty tricks on Ray. In Bookkeeping the groups were changed. Kissy traded places with Hippie and I'm the group leader (sickening). I'm hinting around at Long Johns for Highwaters to ask me to the Thanksgiving Banquet on the 23rd. But I doubt if he will. I went to church tonight and all we did was goof off pretty much, but it was OK. I sincerely hope that Highwaters comes to school tomorrow.

November 4
I got a C on the Religion test, and today was the last day of the quarter or grading period. I had to take the Biology test over too. I did a lot better - I got 13. I also had to get my hearing tested and she said it was real good. I think Ed will take Donna to the Banquet. Blast. Because I know Steven won't ask me and it makes me mad!

After school today Donna and I skated around in the gym until Ray and my brother came and then we played keep-away. It was kinda fun, but oh my aching legs. We went shopping tonight and I got a card for Mike (I got his letter today) and I wrote him and sent him a present for his 16th birthday.

November 5
Blast! Steven had to come to school today and he wasn't supposed to because I was supposed to tell Ed a plan me and Donna had. I was glad I got to see him tho' and I challenged him to a game of chess on Monday. I bet he will win. The school principal had chapel and everyone was talking it was kinda funny, but not very nice. In Biology lab we learned how to make an insect collection (ick), and we watched a boring movie.

After school I played Ray a couple of games of chess and he won, but he said I did good for how long I've been playing. Maybe I have a little hope for Monday.

November 6
I just heard David Cassidy's new song (a rerun) Cherish. I like it OK, but I liked it the way the other group (the Associations) did it better.

Steven came to church today and I said Hi and he nodded - I just heard Cherish again. After church I went to visit my grandma (who was in a nursing home, due to a stroke) and then we went to Eureka Canyon to the house where we used to live. I saw an old friend, Fred, wow! what a doll! While were were up there I found an edible mushroom (but I didn't eat it) and a birds nest. Nothing was going on at school tonight, so I fixed my chess set up - it looks pretty good except my dad put the hook on crooked and it made me mad. Well, I think I'll go to bed since I don't have anything better to do...

November 7
I had to get up early as usual and water the D lawn (bore) and then I cleaned my filthy room. At lunch, I was playing a game of chess with Ray and Fritz was over so he helped me, but Ray won anyway. Last Sunday I replanted my corn (for Biology) and it's coming up already.

I didn't study much today, so guess what I'll get bad grades all the time, Ha, Ha and I could care less! I'm reading an ancient book published in 1898. It's a little hard to understand, but it's ok.

I went to Sue's to watch TV and all kinds of good things were on. Next week is "Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit" with Kurt Russell, oh love!

November 8
Yesterday was the Pathfinder Fair and Donna said she was with Ed, so he will probably ask her to the Banquet. Ed talked to Steven today and Steven said he would think about asking me to the Banquest - I hope he thinks real hard.

In noon recess, I played Steven a game of chess and I swear I couldn't think, so he won, oh well, better luck next time.

After school I tried to do some Bookkeeping, sick. Ray says he wants to meet Steven, but that's too bad. My mom got bored so we went to JC Penny's and I got some clothes. I sure needed them. I also got a letter from my cousin David.

November 9
I was in a fairly good mood today and in study hall we were supposed to finish our Bookkeeping, but mine was all wrong, so I gave up. So Steven and the rest of us were goofing off and acting stupid. During the noon hour, I played Steven another game of chess & he won, but I think I did much better.

Guess what I'm getting in Bookkeeping and Biology - A's. I don't think I was more shocked in all my life!

After shool today Donna came over and we were goofing off. In P.E. the girls got to play football, but I thought it was sick. I played Ray a chess game, and he won - no shock.

November 10
Ed didn't come to school - Blast!!! Don was at school all day - he quit MBA. We had 2 tests in Driver's Ed and I missed 9 on both tests together. Sick.

At lunch I played Sue a game of chess and won (for once in my life). On the way to P.E. I had Donna ask Steve if he was going to ask me and he said he didn't know, but he would if Ed asked Donna - and later I heard that Steve was pretty sure that Ed would ask Donna, so I'm pretty sure.

After school today I had to make a couple of pumpkin pies for the bake sale on Friday, so we can go on the ski trip. Ray bought one for $1.50 and gave us all a piece. It was pretty good, even if I must say so myself.

November 11
What a day! I woke up and it was raining. I went to school pretty early and Steven came so I was yakking to him. I'm getting B's in Religion, Geometry, and Literature, which is good - no C's so far. In study hall I started to play Mike a game of chess, but didn't finish it, then we were telling a bunch of jokes, and Mr. M got all pushed. In lunch recess, Steve almost asked me, but he chickened out - blast!!!!!!!!!

Tonight was the 9th and 10th grade swim party. It was real fun. I really enjoyed myself. Mark was there and we played keep away and things like that. Afterwards, I went to Cheryl's house and Me and Sue goofed off there. It was OK - it's 10:30 so I'll close

P.S. we have new groups for Bookkeeping and Biology - I'm a group leader in both - my groups are Me, Nanette and Michele in Bookkeeping and Biology is Me, Steve (yeah!) and Yvonne.

November 12
If I thought yesterday was bad, today was worse - it rained a little and Steven acted funny and I acted funny all day. I don't think he will ask me, but Donna does.

Our class had a bake sale for the ski trip (I think I already said that) and Steve's dad made all kinds of brownies (Steve's dad was a baker/pastry chef at the State University). Altogether we made $15.00 which is pretty good. In Biology we were supposed to have reports, but nobody gave theirs. It was kinda funny. In study period I played the dot game with Mike - he won by 1 point!

After school, Timmy woke up and I had to feed him. Then I helped Donna for awhile. Tonight I went with my dad to see the flourescent waves at the beach. It was cool - the way the waves lighted up.

November 13
It rained last night and during church, but it cleared up later. Steve came to church. I sat with some 8th and 9th graders and we discussed "you know who". He waved to me (whoopie). After church we went to visit my grandmother, but she was asleep, so we left. I read this really good book (shame on me) , but I couldn't resist the temptation. Timmy woke up, so I fed him and then took him for a walk in the mud puddles.

The annual book fair was tonight and Ed asked Donna - goodie - that means that Steven will ask me on Tuesday. Sandy, an old friend, was there and so was John E. he was really mad at Donna. In all I had a very enjoyable time (because I was in a good mood........)

November 14
I didn't have to get up early on this Sunday day, because of all the rain - so I didn't have to water, but I still had my weekend home-work to do.

Ray is all interested in bead stringing, so I had to show him how to do that, so I sorted some beads while I was doing that. Then I read "Airport" a good book - I guess I haven't read it far enough. I also wrote a letter to Milo and would you believe, I wrote Dorcas a letter, she'll probably faint when she gets it!

I went to Sue's and watched Walt Disney. "Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit" was on, it was real good & Jimmy Stewart and Bonanza - very - very - good.

November 15
We didn't have to go to school today because of parent-teacher conferences and we can't play chess in school anymore because Ellen White says so. It doesn't make sense to me. I cleaned up my room somewhat and changed the bulletin board. This afternoon, I got bored, so I went to Sue's house. We played some chess and checkers and I won every game we played - pretty good - huh? I guess I just had a lucky streak.

Otis called tonight and wanted to know if I could play any instruments - I said clarinet - and he wants me to play it at the Banquet, but I said I didn't know if I was going (uck)

November 16
Well, guess who didn't come to school today - Steven, right! Vivian (Steve's carpool) wasn't there either so his mom probably didn't want to take him (my logical conclusion). We were cracking all kinds of mean, dirty jokes about him that I hope he doesn't ever find out about. He'll probably be at school tomorrow.

I got my report card today - 3 A's and 4 B's - pretty good. I got a dollar for each A - pretty good. I also got a "huge" letter from Uwe with a lot of things in it including a 1914 50 Mark note and some pictures of him and Bernd. I had to show them to Michele and she really liked it except Bernd's picture. Other than that, nothing else worth writing about happened today - SORRY!

November 17
Steven came to school today and was a nervous wreck - you wouldn't believe it, I couldn't concentrate on a thing. I didn't make honor roll, but I was honorable mention - sick & I got all A's and B's (except for a B- in Drivers Ed - and you don't even have to take that!

Everybody was bugging me about Steve and I know everybody was bugging him, I'm surprised he didn't go insane. Anyway he gave me a note and asked me and I didn't see it until I got home and I probably wouldn't have seen it then, except I had some pictures in it. We moved our desks around and I sit in the front row kittycorner from Steven and in front of Ed and kittycorner from Donna. Oh yes, I got the material today to make my dress for the Banquet.

November 18
Today isn't even worth writing about - Steven acts like he is afraid of me and I act the same way. I'm going to try to break the ice tomorrow. We watched a movie in Bookkeeping and it was about Biology - it was sick. Nothing of coincidence happened at school. After school me and Donna went updown with her mom (she always gets her hair done on Thursday) and we went window shopping - it was a real blast to look at all the clothes, etc. After I got home I started cutting my material, and I remembered I had to fix supper. I swear I don't know when I'm boing to make the dumb thing. Then we went shopping and I got a bunch of B.S. (bull shit) as usual.

November 19
I did it! Steve came to school and I made him play me a game of mini football and it worked. We were normal and we bugged each other and joked and acted like we usually do. I'm glad because I was worried. In Religion class we got to watch a movie for Drivers Ed. It was real gory. In recess Donna, Ed, Steven and I played a game of Ecology for Biology points - it was fun because we were all fighting over it.

In Biology we got in our groups and poked our fingers for blood testing. I'm A negative, Steven is O positive -which is a bad combination for kids (as if we'll get married). Ray's mom came up from Mexico which was a slight surprise (Ray's father was going to Medical School in Mexico).

November 20
I had to play the piano for church school today and they never would have known I knew how, if it wasn't for Dan and his stupid brother Rob (they are Ray's brothers). MBA had the church service and it was boring. As usual, I sat in the balcony with Cheryl. Steven didn't come - blast!

I got a letter from Mike finally and he sent me a picture of him on his Yamaha motorcycle. It's a really neat picture, but the picture didn't look like him.

I didn't do much else, but read a book. I also worked on my formal, and finished the bodice.

November 21
I had to get up early to water the lawn - luck doesn't last forever I guess. I had to clean the living room for Tueday(for when Steven comes over - if he does). Babes is sick again. I think it's a cold, anyway, he sneezes and has a runny nose, so I gave him some vitamins.

I worked on my formal all afternoon and I finished it except for the hem. I guess it looks OK, it has a REAL low-cut neckline.

Ray is going to live in San Jose with his girlfriends grandmother - he got a job up there.

I went to Sue's to watch Walt Disney - I went with my brother and Ray in my brother's little sports car (cozy) (an Alpha Romeo Spyder). The conclusion to "Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit" was lovely.

November 22
Steven said he didn't come to church because he was in Oakland helping is brother (or brother-in-law, I can't remember which.) E.W. was gone so we had a substitute Mrs. L. She was pretty good. Steven said (in Religion class) that he can write things down easier than he can say them, and everybody started cracking up - and he got sooo embarassed. We watched a movie in Drivers Ed. and we sat together - kinda - and we also watched a movie in Biology, but that was something else.

Miss S made us run 10 laps in P.E. and it made me sooo mad (but I only ran 8)(what a messy page). After school Donna and I had to make 8 pies for the banquet - what I mess - I hope they taste OK.

November 23
As I can't remember much about what happened today at school, except playing a game of Ecology and winning our first game of volley ball - I'll spend the rest of the page telling about the Banquet...

After school it was blah and we didn't do much until 5:30, then Donna fixed my hair and Cheryl came and got the pies and we went to Long's to pick up some pictures and put perfume on our body's (mmm), we rushed to the Banquet where Steve forgot to get me a corsage, and he felt real bad and called himself cheap, etc. (I don't think he knew he was supposed to get one) So I forgave him. Then the program was good and the pies were OK and we had some pictures taken and he put his arm around me etc. It was very fun....

November 24
Steven didn't come to school today because we had a test in Religion, and I thought I would die because I can't see him! Only half day of school today because of the holiday. That means I won't see Steven until Saturday and then only if he comes to church - I think I'll die!

After school I went to Sue's house and we messed around for awhile - I was supposed to make some pies, but I was too lazy and mom got mad because she wasn't feeling well and she had a temperature - So we won't have pies tomorrow.

I took the film down to get it developed. I'll pick them up on Monday. I can't wait.

Babes is getting worse I think. Dad thinks he has pneumonia. I don't know. I just filled in all the lines in the cover of this diary.

November 25
Today was Thanksgiving and I didn't get up until 9:00 - and my mom was sick, but she got up and I helped her fix the dinner. It was pretty good.

These are the things I am thankful for: God, Steven, A home and parents, good friends, and many other things too numerous to mention (these are the honorable mentions). I got a letter from my cousin David and I sent Uwe and him a letter.

Ray came over in the afternoon and they had a "recreation" over at the school tonight and I went to that - that's why my handwriting is so bad - I'm shaking - So I hope you can read this. I can't think of anything else I did today besides read a book. Reading pleasure books that's another thing I am thankful for - In fact - I don't know what I'd do without them (pleasure books that is).

November 26
My mom didn't go to work today because she still isn't feeling well. I tried to do a little school work, but it was boring - so I read my book until it started getting boring. Wow! what a boring day! I can't think of anything else I did - oh yes, I played a game of chess with myself - but didn't finish - black would have won. There was a meeting at Arvie's tonight - it was pretty good. Sue was telling me about her and David - David has a big crush on her and I asked her to ask him why he got so mad at us that time - so maybe I'll say something about it later on. I think Babe's is getting a little better. But I can't tell very well. I guess I'll go to bed now - sigh! only 13 more hours until I see Steve (at church) - its' 10:30 now -

November 27
Blast! Blast! Blast! and Blast again! Steven didn't come to church. I should have known better. There were a lot of people at church today - shock. and Michele and I ditched, but then we came back and there wasn't anyplace left to sit. I sat upstairs during church, but it was blah without Steve to look at.

They had singing bands and I went. We were gone for 3 hours - my poor throat - singing the same songs over and over.

There was skating tonight and it was boring compared to last time. After Donna came it got better because I at least had someone to talk to etc. When it was time to pay - I didn't have any money so Mrs. W gave me some. I was so embarassed. I guess I'll pay her back on Monday.

November 28
Good, I was in luck today, it rained, so I didn't have to water and I did all my homework except for Geometry, and I can't stand it. My mom is sick still and she wants to quit her job and open up a shop. Sick, I don't want her to because that's our trip to Canada down the drain, just like that and clothes and everything just about. I think if she would have taken a vacation last summer, she wouldn't feel the way she does. Ray came over for awhile. I went to Sue's early to watch TV because I didn't feel like eating. Walt Disney was OK so was Jimmy Stewart and Bonanza. I guess that's all I did today besides read a bunch of books - bore, bore!!! (I hope I see Steven tomorrow - I'm keeping my fingers crossed).

November 29
Guess what! right! Steven came to school today and told us all his adventures - during my boring weekend. His sister came from Los Angeles and they have a trailer home car (whatever you call them) and they went up to San Francisco - etc. etc.

I got a C on my Religion test, sick. In Drivers Ed - the Principal had to leave - so we were having fun - wrecking the table. In P.E. we played dodge ball with the boys etc. It was all right.

After school Donna and I wanted to pick up the Banquet pictures, but we couldn't find a ride, so we went with Mr. H and they weren't in yet and we were going to walk home, but Otis's grandmother took us back to the school. At 5:30 we went back and come to find out they didn't get out until Friday - So I guess I'll pick them up tomorrow. The Book and Bible House came and I got 2 records and 8 books. Records are Rose City Singers (I wanted that Album for a long time) and Reformation (a new group). Real good. Cheryl came over and I went to Pathfinders with her (she's a Junior Counselor).

November 30
Everybody hates Geometry and nobody will do anything but goof off and Debra dropped out (lucky her) I HATE Geometry. Mr M gets soooo mad at us! He won't let us play Ecology during study period anymore. Shucks. So we sent around a paper for everyone to sign - as many times as it came around. Steven signed his hame and I signed mine through it (like a crossword puzzle) etc. In recess I was by Steven and he started multiplying (Ecology game) - it was funny, but embarassing. Mrs P came over and got me out of class to pay me for the D lawn job ($12.00)

In P.E. we're starting to play basketball and I HATE it. I hope I get on a good team for once in my life, and that Mary isn't on it. I didn't feel like picking up the Banquet pictures tonight - maybe tomorrow.
