Sue, Michele, Me, David

Sept 7, 1971
Today was Tuesday, the first day of school. We were supposed to have the newly built classrooms - but they aren't finsihed yet, so we are going to use the library until they are finished. Mr M, our homeroom teacher, has been in the hospital so we are having GB, a Freshman in College, for our substitute. She's pretty good. We also have EW and Mr H. the new 7th grade teacher Miss S is going to teach girls Physical Education (P.E.). I hope she is good. The rest of the day was like a first day of school getting settled, etc. We have 12 in our class, no new students (3 boys, 9 girls). Note: this is a small parochial school

Sept 8
Last night I got a make-up kit - so I wore a bunch of make-up today. I hope it didn't look too bad. EW said he is going to be the yearbook sponsor if Mr M won't. I don't think he will frankly. Miss S had P.E. today. She doesn't even know how to serve a volleyball! I don't know if I like her or not. I had to feed Timmy (my turtle) today. I don't know if he is hybernating or not so I don't know if I should feed him. I just discovered a new way to make stationery, it is really cool.

Sept 9
Today in English II GB had us finish a story that she took from a book. I wrote 5 pages! In P.E. we asked Miss S if the 9th and 10th grade could be teams against the 7th and 8th graders - and she said yes. I had to water the D lawn (I had a job taking care of a yard). Ellen came up and bought my piano just like that "snap" for 75 dollars. It's all out of tune and it needs new pegs amongst other problems. I'm putting the money in the bank so I can go to Milo (a boarding school) next year. We went grocery shopping tonight and I got a tunic blouse - it's really neat. I got Sue her birthday present - a sweatshirt with a smiley face on it. I also got some school supplies.

Sept 10
This was the closing of the first week of school I guess it won't be all that bad, if I study hard and after we get settled into the new classrooms. Since it is Friday, we got off early, so we didn't have P.E. I got a little caught up in homework so I won't have to do so much on Sunday. For bookkeeping class we have to make a balance sheet of all our possessions - rather interesting. I fed Timmy and took him for his walk.

I went to the Friday-night meeting (church youth group) at Arvie's. It was pretty good. The text Lev. 15: 16-28 is real good. I didn't know that was even in the Bible!

Sept 11
This was Saturday and I went to church - bore! I'm in the youth class now and its worse than the earliteens. After church I went to Michele's house for dinner. At 3:00 we decided to go to the church and wait until Arvie picked us up for singing bands (singing at nursing homes). Nobody was there so we went to Arvie's house - nobody was there either - so we went back to Michele's house. We called everybody we could think of and nobody was home! We gave up and planned a beach party for the 22nd. Then Arvie called and we went to Loma Prieta (mountain) and looked at the stars and city lights. We saw two satellites. I didn't get home until midnight.

Sept 12
I had to water the lawn today for D (fun, fun) and I finished my homework. Sue invited me to her birthday party today so at 12:30 I went to that. It was kinda blah at first, but then Michele and Ranele came and we opened the presents. There was this guy there his name is David. He's a Freshman and very short - about 4'9" - I'm 4'11". So we kinda hung around together. He's got a dirty mind - full of dirty jokes - but I think he's kinda cute. When I got home I fed Timmy, but he wouldn't eat - so I'm pretty sure he is hybernating. I won't feed him for a week. I watched Walt Disney at Sue's. It was good.

Sept 13
Well, it looks like another day is over. Mr M was back today and he told us all about his illness. I think GB is better (a better teacher) than him, but I'm not going to tell him that! The new classrooms aren't quite finished. We'll either move in the middle of this week or wait until Monday.

Guess what? we got a new boy in our class - Mike - I know him from the youth group. He's really fat, but I think he's nice. During Biology, Steven got "very" mad at me because I made him talk and he was docked 10 points. I said I was sorry - oh well - I have to go take a shower now because it is Sooooo hot!!!!!

Sept 14
Wow, was it ever hot today - at least 105. I thought I might smother! Steven was very nice to me today (shock). Sue, Michele and I were talking about David and he thought we were talking about him. It was kind of funny. Mike is having a pretty hard time adjusting to our school I think, but I don't blame him. Michele and I told EW our plans about the beach party - and he thought they were good - so did Mr. M although he might not be able to come. After school I went to Sue's and watched "Love Me Tender" starring Elvis Presley. It was good, even though I have seen it before. I went to get my swamp water tonight it's all full of fish and bugs etc. (yuck) for Biology lab.

Sept 15
We had a big test in Geometry today. I'm pretty sure I flunked. Mr M had to take his daughter to college today, so we had a substitute Mrs N (uck) - I guess she's not THAT bad. Mr H liked my swamp water. In mine and some of the others - you could see little bugs (so small I could hardly see them) in the water - really weird. Friday we are going to look at them through the microscope.

In P.E. we were supposed to go to MBA (a school with a swimming pool) and swim, but they were having a school picnic so we are going tomorrow at 12:15. I went to prayer meeting and I had to play the piano (terrible) A couple of people thanked me afterwards - so I guess it wasn't too bad.

Sept 16
I missed getting a C in Geometry by 1 point. Steven wasn't here today and I could care less. We didn't have classes this afternoon because we went simming at MBA and with our luck it was cloudy and foggy all day. But we had a lot of fun. I saw Ron and Ed.

I had a beautiful plan today - to go to the County Fair. Me, Sue, David, my brother (to drive) and his friend Ray. But my mom didn't want David to go so I had to call and cancel it - was I very mad!!!! So mad I started bawling. Michele came over and we went to the PTA meeting instead - it was a potluck - so I didn't have to come home to eat. I guess it was ok.

Sept 17
Finally it is Friday. We had a test in Religion class - which I know I flunked. In biology we had lab. We learned how to use a microscope and looked at microscopic bugs. My mosquito larvae's head was a big as this book and we could see all it's insides and everything - it was really interesting.

Sue invited David to the meeting at Arvie's. I think he really enjoyed it. Ron (a guy staying at Arvie's) got into a real bad motorcycle accident. His wife is pregnant. I don't know where they are going to get all the money. After the meeting when we took David home, we were goofing off, etc. and he put his arm around me (whoopie). It was all very fun.

Sept 18
Today at church we were supposed to sing one verse of the song and these old ladies started singing the second verse - it was really funny. After church we went to singing bands, and then we went to visit Ron in the hospital. We snuck in 2 at a time - until there were 13 of us in his room. His arm is all ranked out, but otherwise he is ok. He kept on teasing me about David and I got a little bit miffed at him about that. After that me, Michele, Ranele, Marla, Mike, Bev & Otis went on a hike. One time I slipped and went right through Mike's legs - it was funny. After the hike he bought us all a coke. I stayed overnight at Michele's house.

Oh, I got a letter from Dorcas today (my penpal from the Phillipines)

Sept 19
Me and Michele didn't get to sleep till 12:30 this morning. We laughed for 1 hour straight. Oh my aching cheeks! We didn't get up until about 10 - when Bev called and then my dad - he had to go to San Francisco. We listened to records and played games mostly all day - it was fun. My dad picked me up at 2:30. I had to go home and water the lawn (for D) and also do my homework. David and Sue came over at 5 and we goofed off and went to Sue's house. We're going swimming next week and he's going to give me his friendship ring. I ate a Sue's tonight and watched TV.

Sept 20
My other pen just zonked out - so I guess I'll have to use this one. Steven was at school today (shock) Boy was he ever nice to me. I think he might like me a little. Yeah! Mr. H went to Arizona, so we had Mrs. O for a substitute - Mike brought a book on making paper airplanes - so we had fun in her classes. She let us study - Mark & Sue studied with me. It was very fun. I have poison oak all over my face from that hike on Saturday night. How maddening! I went to the library tonight and got 4 record albums - very good ones. Also a book called "Amy". I think it will be good.

Sept 21
Hey, I think my pen decided to work. I guess school was just about normal. We watched a movie in Biology. Mr. H was back but surprisingly we didn't have any quizzes. I think I'd better hurry and write a letter to Dorcas. Me and Michele were having a rather hard time getting everything together for the beach party. For one thing - corn is slightly out of season - but we got some at a reasonable price. After we got everything we had 4 cents left! Allen was holding the cider and Ranele threw the ball at him and "POP" well there went the cider. Considering all the oddities and the people that planned it. I think it was rather enjoyable.

Sept 22
Well today we were tested on how much we have achieved. Achievement tests all morning. I probably did rotten - I don't know. We will have them tomorrow morning also. Gordon a 9th grader joined us in Drivers Ed. Mr. H lectured us in biology all afternoon. I almost got a headache trying to absorb it all in my brain. This afternoon I had to feed Timmy - I think he ate quite a bit. He is very hard to understand. I also had to water the lawn and somebody stole the knob that turns the water off and on. you wouldn't believe how mad I was. I'm a bad girl, I didn't go to church tonight - instead I went shopping and got a bunch of junk including a nighty.

Sept 23
Steven said Hi to me today and I just looked at him and started laughing. We had achievement tests again today - Math (yuck) and skills. In Geometry me and Steven were having a paper wad and rubberband fight. Mike got a rubberband and tried to hit me with it. Mr. M saw him and he got in trouble - it was funny because it wasn't his fault. We had another dreadful lecture in Biology. I wrote a letter to Mike ( a former classmate who moved to Washington State) today and bawled him out for not sending me a letter. Oh yes, David called and asked me to go swimming on Sunday. He said he tried to call sooner but I was too busy. His mom only let him talk for 10 minutes so, I'll see him Saturday.

Sept 24
Well, back to the old regime. Gometry, English and Religion. In chapel, DM gave the talk. It was OK. At lunch me and Cheryl put Timmy out in the back yard. (I lived on the school grounds - my dad was the custodian/caretaker at the school). I think he enjoyed himself pretty well. In Biology lab we have to plant corn and beans. We also looked at microscopic bugs again. We had to make a glucose molecule (using a model). I had to do it with Mike- he did most of it. I then got to sit by Steven for the first time (whoopie) he rode his bike to school today and he lives clear across town. I went with Sue to Arvie's again tonight. David came also. After the meeting we were acting very strange. He gave me his ring - it's kinda small for me - but who cares.

Sept 25
I'm a bad girl, I didn't go to church school this morning, oh well, my parents didn't go so I really didn't have a way to get there and besides church was in the gym. Wow you should have seen all the people. David came, but so did Steven. I sat by David and we stayed for the potluck dinner, we were last in line (as usual) so we had to take the dribbles. I had film in my camera - so we took a bunch of pictures. Me and David, Michele, Sue, etc. etc. We had a lot of fun. After that we went on singing bands and when we prayed this old lady started yelling the Lord's Prayer. I just about split right there. Nothing went on this afternoon, so I just stayed home.

Sept 26
It rained just about all morning so I got out of doing the lawn. I also did most of my homework until David called. I didn't want to go swimming today because of the weather. But he said Sue was (she didn't want to either). So I said OK - he came over and we goofed off until Sue finished her many duties and then we had to decide where to go. The pool wasn't open - yeah. We ended up going to the beach. It was very windy, but I thought it was kinda fun. At 7:00 we had to watch Jacques Costeau on TV . We went to Terry's (Sue's brother) house and watched his color TV. It was OK - also Jimmy Stewart and Bonanza.

Sept 27
School (barf) We had a big quiz in Biology and I got the highest score 11/30 - oh well. In P.E Miss S was sick so we had P.E. with Mr H (and the boys) - He made us do all the football exercises and run about 3 laps around the field. Then we got to play volleyball which was a riot. I planted my garden for Biology and wrote down the definitions and Asst. for Geometry and fed Timmy. I also had to fix supper (tacos) and finally I got to relax with a book. I'm very tired so I'll go to bed now even if it's only 8:00.

Sept 28
In Geometry Mark and I were having a fight over a chair. He wouldn't give it to me and it was mine - besides he already had 2 of his own. Mr M got perturbed so we "shared" it. During study hall we finally got to move over to the new classrooms. It was kinda fun. It is kinda dull in there so Mr. M gave us some pictures to put on the wall. One had a picture of a couple of boys skinny dipping so we put it under the clock. Mr M saw it and said, "I thought that would be the first one you would put up." but he didn't take it down. We had P.E. with the boys again only it wasn't as bad. I got paid today for watering the D lawn $12.00.

Sept 29
Well, the new classrooms are finally all finished and all we have to do is enjoy them. They are OK. In English class Mr M had to take the 1-3 grades to a fire station for a field trip. The school principal was supposed to take over, but he was busy - so I was the teacher until he was able to come. In Bookkeeping and Biology Mr H had us split into 4 groups 3 in each group (we have 4). Mark, Eddie, Donna, and me) I think it's a good group if Mark will study. We watched a movie on the atom in Biology and we have to make an Ecology poster. We had a Drivers Ed test too. I missed 2 which was very good. Miss S is back and we chose volleyball teams. I am on Michele's. I watered the lawn this afternoon - just my luck - it's raining now!

Sept 30
I was in a very good mood today - first I was acting like an old nag and bossing Mark around. Tomorrow is his last day here, he's going to take correspondence courses and work. Then me and Steven were fighting = funny. Edward was sick so I had him all to myself. Anyway. I had this sex test (quiz) from Ann Landers - It was real good. Everyone was doing it. We tried to get Steve to, but I don't think he's done anything. E.D. had chapel today - it was kinda fun. After school Edward came so we went to talk to him (ditcher). Steven stayed after school until 4:00 so we were throwing rocks at each other and I swiped his coat. funny. His parents came and I was bugging him - funny. We bought groceries tonight - I got a lot of stuff.
