March 1, 1972
Ed brought his tennis racket today-good! This morning before school, Cheryle had a squirt thingie and she kept squirting everybody and when Steven came in she gave him a big squirt and he got sooooo mad it was kinda funny. In Geometry, I finished all my problems, so I was just sitting there and Mr Mc gets all pushed, it made me mad - only 5 minutes left of class, so I got a test and I did the first problem.

School was over at 12:00, so Sue and I went and played tennis at S from about 1:00 until 3:30, and I got rather tired. So we went to the church there and listened to the girls practice. Oh yes, I forgot, Arvie came over and played me a game of tennis - he won. Otis was there and he called off the date - phew - goodie!

I cut out my smiley material and almost finished my dress. Mrs R called for the SAYU (?) tomorrow night. I need help in Bookkeeping!

March 2
I got my Bookkeeping all straightened out. Steven was in a good humor today and we were all talking and having a great time. Ed said he wanted to play me a game of tennis sometime. So maybe next weekend. In PE we got to play anything we wanted to, some of the kids asked Mr H if our 9th and 10th grade basketball teams could play other teams from other schools. It sounds good and he agreed.

After school I watered Mrs. S's plants and then I copied a song from the record "Just Dropped In" by Kenny Rogers. I like it. Tonight the SAYU project went to put chairs in W for the "Reach Out For Life" meetings and some MBA guys were there. Oh yes, on the way up, I sat by Richard (thrill). I think he might like me a little. I KNOW I like him. We stopped at the Frosty's and got some ice cream. 11 people piled into a Toyota. Richard was showing me how to play the uke (ukelele).

March 3
Cheryle came to school today, she was in an accident yesterday morning and they were hit by a semi-truck and their truck was demolished. Sue was at San Francisco to see the doctor, but she doesn't have to have the operation unless she grows (for scoliosis). Michele and Cindy wanted me to help them with the bake sale, so I did. Steven brought 2 huge trays of brownies that his dad made and there were a lot left over so I took 10, but my brother wasn't here - he went with Paul somewhere.

After school, I sat around and listened to records, oh we had a test in Bookkeeping and I flunked. The Helm Singers were at the church and I went and I hoped Rich (Richard) would come and he did, but he came in the wrong way and sat by Sue. Then he left and I had my coat by me and when he came in he just stood there, so I moved it, and he sat by me, and I put his Uke all out of tune - it was funny (clear the throat) (I'm not sure he likes me or not ????).

March 4
Today I believe was the worst day of the whole year! I went to Church and who was there with Richard but Cindy N! Richard said Hi and I said Hi. At first they didn't sit together and then they did, and don't say I wasn't mad - oh well, I guess it's what I should have expected, but that is ALWAYS what happens to me and it gets kind of tiring after awhile.

After church, which was over at 12:35. I wasn't hungry, so I didn't eat. I played the piano for awhile, then I laid out in the sun and took a nap. Then I went to Sue's to tell her all my woes and lamentations, but she was gone, so I called later and persuaded her to go to the meeting in W. We rode the school bus, it was boring. Rich was sitting with Cindy N. Sigh - he only waved to me.

March 5
Mr Mc had to come in at 7:00 and start the bus, I thought it was a school day, so I woke up really fast. It made me mad when I remembered. I got up at seven and washed my brothers sheets, etc. and did the homework and started my smiley dress, which looks perfectly awful! yuck!

After noon I played some tennis with my bare feet, but they got so hot, I gave up. It was roasting. I went to Sue's for awhile and then I went to the S's to water their flowers - they were home and they paid me $8.00. Whoopie!! Now, I can get my sandals.

Richard called me and asked about the bus and then he asked if I was going to the meeting and I said no and he said good. Which made me a little mad, but I think (hope) it was a joke.

My dad's mother died today, so my dad didn't go to the meeting. I watched TV with Sue, they were all good.

March 6
We got out of Geometry today because of the meetings. And we had Chapel today instead of Driver's Ed test (phew!). I wasn't ready, and at the end of Chapel, we all had to hold hands for a song & Donna held hands with Steven and I gave her kinda a dirty look I guess, and afterwards she said how sorry she was, etc (ha ha) and said she was trying to figure out if I still liked him or not, and she finally figured it out. It makes me sick! Oh dear, I have a lot to write and not enought room to write it in (sigh)

At noon Ed and I played a game of tennis, it was OK. I think Steven wanted to, but he didn't say anything. In PE we are starting tumbling (gymnastics) - yuck! After school I played tennis with Arlyn and we did real well, but I was in the sun and it was HOT! Then I went home and took a shower, ah it felt delicious.

I had a hard decision to make tonight. Whether to go to Pathfinders or to the meeting. I didn't know which one Rich was going to. I don't know, but I went to the meeting & he wasn't there. Mr. Mc drove and he missed the exit. So we got all lost - it was funny. I sat with Donna, Sue, Michele, and Ranele and we were all talking. After it was over, the people that sat behind me goes, "You sure missed a good sermon" It was kinda funny, but it made me mad too. There was hardly anybody at the meeting - about 1/4 was full.

On the way back home, I learned a lot of things like Mike (school Mike, not the penpal Mike) had a crush on me for sure last summer. And that Richard is going to date around to find a girl he likes. That's good, I think! My dad left for Washington tonight - for the funeral.

March 7
Steven didn't come to school today. We got out of English today, but we had Drivers Ed instead. We watched a movie which was OK and took a drivers license test, I missed 5 which is the limit. That was good because Donna missed 4. I got 89% on the Geometry test (whoopie!). In Bookkeeping we took it easy and got out early so Ed and I played tennis. In PE we tumbled again.

After school, I persuaded my brother to take Sue and me uptown and I got some sandals, the kind with a toe ring. I like them ok.

I rode the bus to the meeting and took my Uke and Rich got on and I was sitting in the back corner and he sat in the front and didn't see me. Well, he was talking to Mr H and Mr H goes "isnt' that right (me)" and I said "right!" and Rich goes "Are you here?" "I want you to come up and sit by me." So I did and we played the Ukes etc. and he sat by me at the meeting. Donna thinks he's ugly, but I don't care what she thinks! On the way back he sat by me and we played the Uke's. At the church bus stop, he asked me if he could take me home and I said, "I guess so". He asked Mr. H if it was OK and Mr H said he didn't know, but I went with Rich. It was good. But what about Cindy N??????

March 8
Oh wow! What a day! Cindy and Michele got expelled for two days for wearing nylons to PE and when they went to change them, they didn't come back to class. Steven came to school today, and he is coming on the snow trip (he was going to see Sammy Davis Jr. in LA). In Drivers Ed, we got out of a test, it was boring as usual. In Bookkeeping, Donna and Debra had to take a test, so we got a recess. Ed and I played tennis. It was fun. Mr H also posted our grades. I'm getting the highest score in Bookkeeping by 15 points and 2nd in Biology by 200 points. Sick, but I still think I'll get an A. In PE we tumbled again.

After school, I finished my pants and then I went to Sue's for awhile. I came home and took a shower and did the dishes and ate. And got on the bus and Mr. H was bugging me about last night about my prostomium, etc. And Ricky LH sat by me and we played Uke's. Oh yes, before that I moved over to let him sit by me and he goes "do you think I'm going to sit by you?" but he was just kidding. Cindy N was singing in the choir tonight, and he didn't pay any attention to her. I was surprised and she looked mad and shocked. I was bugging him etc. After everybody got off the bus, he asked me if he could take me home, and I said "ok". Mr. H didn't know if it was ok, but he let us off. And Richard wanted to tell me something (ask me something), but guess what! He locked his keys in the car - cool! So we started walking home, but he saw a light in the parking lot and it was Mrs. P - who took me home, so he didn't get to ask me and I'm dying to know! And I'll be gone for 4 days!

Oh about something else (change the subject) Sue gets to go on the snow trip. I'm paying 2 dollars - she'll pay me back. I think that's good and Donna took Bob to the meeting. He's OK I guess, not at all what I expected!

March 9
I got up kinda early this morning and I wore my new pants to school, and we only had school for half a day because of the snow trip. And Steven came to school with all new clothes, etc. He looked super! We left at 12:30 exactly and I didn't get to go in the car I wanted to, but it was fun. We persuaded the driver to go 100 MPH for awhile! We got here (Yosemite) at 4:30, and we goofed off - it was really neat. We went to the swinging bridge. Nobody else got here until 6:30. We got an extra cabin just us 4 (Cheryle, Sue, Donna and me) and Bev and Linda came and told us they were with us (and Alice and Mrs. H) I was so mad! At night guess what - I forgot my PJ's sick. It makes me mad! We also went on a hike and Steve, Ed & Mike kept scaring me. We went to the boys cabin and stole their candy bars. At supper our group had to fix sandwiches for tomorrow and everybody was mad at me and I was bawling (dumb). It's 10:45 now and I do miss Rich. I'm dying to know what he wanted to say to me and I know Cindy N will be there this weekend and everything will be wrecked. But I am having a blast anyway.

March 10
I think I forgot to say what and where Wawona is. It is a church owned summer camp and it is in Yosemite National Forest. We got up early because everybody wanted to go to the snow. Cindy, Michele and I went ice skating at Yosemite Valley. I took a bunch of pictures of Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Bridal Veil, etc. Also a lot of pictures of us falling down ice skaing. I can do a lot more things on ice skates now, but the ice was getting slushy, etc. So we left and ate and went to Badger Pass where we went on the Tobbogan. It was fun but COLD. Steven was the biggest chicken! I didn't realize! We went on the highest hill (Ed, Donna and I) and we wiped out real bad. Ed got a bloody nose. It was fun! Then some of us came back to the cabin and messed up the other girls cabin, they were a little mad. At 6:00, we had a worship and then left for a "Reach-Out" meeting in Oakhurst. Arvie blackmailed me into it, by saying that he would tell Rich that I went, etc. It was dull. When we got back, we went on a hike, it was blah. I did a lot more things, but I don't have room. It's 11:30. Bye.

March 11
Everybody was up early this morning and we went and ate breakfast. After breakfast we had Church School in the Lodge. It was OK. Then we went to the Church Bowl for Church, where Arvie gave the sermon. This morning the pump broke down, so we can't flush the toilet, except with a bucket of water. It's yuck! After lunch everybody went on a hike up to Wawona Dome, but we were on the wrong trail. Not very many people came, they all wiped out and Sue and I were way behind everybody else, and somehow they went back and missed us, so we yelled and yelled for Arvie and he came all the way back up to get us. And we ran all the way back to camp. About 12 miles of hiking altogether (I think). Donna kept falling all over Mike and it was sick. We stopped at the swinging bridge to rest and later we found out that Cindy T and Ranele almost drowned below us a little ways (they didn't go on the hike). When we got back, Steven came with Sue and me and we kept on bugging him, but he enjoyed it. Before supper we had a "sunset hour", and after supper the girls raided the guys cabin because they raided the girls cabin on Friday (there was a 24 hour truce) and what a MESS! The guys got mad and raided the girls cabin and Mike smashed one of the windows. Michele got toothpaste all over Steven's hair and he had to wash it. We called another truce (a final one) and went to the Lodge and played ping pong until 12:30, then we went back to the cabins, but we didn't sack out until 2:00. It was a Far Out day! But tiring z-z-z-z- (snores).

We got up at 8:00 and had breakfast at 8:30. Then we cleaned everything up so we could leave. Some of us wanted to leave early and some wanted to go to the snow for awhile. Ed and Steven wanted to come with us, but the car was too full. While were were waiting for E.W. some of us girls went to the boys cabin and I played Steven a game of chess. We played only half a game. When we left we decided to go through the valley and a coyote was walking along the road so E.W. stopped and we fed him and took pictures, etc. He got about 2 1/2 feet from me - he was really hungry.

I got home at about 4:30, and unpacked and took a shower which felt delightful. I heard that Rich came over to get me Friday at 5:00. I wonder what he wanted? I'm dying to know and everybody said he was alone - so that blows Cindy N. Phew! A relief. I walked to Sue's and we went to Terry's to watch TV. Everything was good. It's 11:30 z-z-z-z-z Oh yeah, I told Sue I was rooming with Donna next year, and she didn't get too mad - another relief.

March 13
School, yech, but we didn't have to work because it was visitor's day at MBA. We rode the bus over there and then we signed up and got a packet, etc. with a yellow and white smiley face on it and a daisy key chain. I'll use it for my room key next year, I guess. Steven didn't come to school today because he was too tired, I guess. Carl, SH's brother-in-law's brother was there, yeck. But I still think he's cute. We took a tour of all the classrooms, etc and after lunch we went on another tour of the industries. I thought it was all very boring. Cindy N has a big picture of Ricky (Richard) on her wall. I guess, I'm just a born loser. I'll try hard to forget about him - liking him, etc, but it will be terribly hard!

After we got home Michele came over and we listened to records, when she left I found out I had a letter from Uwe and he sent me a super picture! I saw Ricky tonight - sigh!

March 14
Today we had school - school, how awful, and would you believe Steven came? He was late, but he made it. Cheryle was the only one that didn't. We had a fire drill this morning and during it dad came and told me I had a letter and he started laughing. So during the break, I ran home and guess who it was from? John E. Ick - I guess, he's not that bad - for a friend - no more. He sent me a poem in French. I figured it out and it was OK, kinda dumb! During lunch Steven gave me half of his candy bar - shock.

After school, I took a shower and wrote John a letter and read "The Seventh Virgin" by Victoria Holt. It's very good so far. My dad forgot to tell me, but I got my beautiful shoes tonight. Oh love, love. I wore them to the Student/Faculty basketball game and everybody liked them. I was time keeper and the Faculty won, as I thought. Richard was there and he was sitting between Otis and Marla and he made me sit on his lap. I was kind of embarassed. He doesn't act like he likes me except for a friend and that's all I act like I like him for. And I didn't get all turned on over him either. In fact, I believe I only like him for a friend.

I sent the film in this morning from Yosemite, etc!

March 15
I can't get my mind on anything that happened today, so I'll cut it. My mind is on Richard. He just left it's 11:00. He was just talking to me about some of the things he felt, etc. and it was really good. All the things he believes, etc. And why Cindy and him broke up. I can't explain it, but I know it will be real hard to live up to his standards. Really, I'll try not to be the way Cindy N was if I can. It will be hard, but if I pray about it maybe I can work something out. Oh dear, I am very tired and I think I will go to bed and think on these things. I know I didn't write much - but I hope it will be excused.

After thought: My dad took Babes to the pound and they put him to sleep, because he has cancer - boo hoo! It makes me kinda mad though too. Poor Babes!

March 16
I am in a very jollyful mood today. Everything good (just about) happened today, except Steven wasn't there. For one thing, I weigh 106 now and I weighed 113 to start out with, that means only 3 more pounds to go to reach my goal! During Religion class, we had a study period and when the bell rang, I automatically went home. Well, to make a long story short it was only 11:30, so I just stayed home, and nobody said anything, luckily.

After school, Donna and I took a walk to "The House of Sounds", but they didn't have anything but cassettes, so we left and went to the store and then we studied. At 4:30, I went home and took a shower and got ready for the meeting. Mr. Mc took the bus, so I went with Sue and I sat with Richard and everything was normal. I'm glad because I was kind of worried. Kim B wanted him to go home with her "for protection", but that's OK. He doesn't like her for special.

March 17
I got a letter from Dorcas today.

Yahoo! Today was Friday! Steven was gone again, but I find that I think less and less about him. Very strange. We got out of Geometry today, but I took my test anyway, and got 84% on it, which is pretty good, I think. Donna let me copy the words to the song "The King is Coming" and after school, I typed them up and made a copy for Richard. In Biology we only had class for half the period, so we all went outside and did whatever we felt like doing. It was fun, I guess.

After school, I just goofed off, when I should have been doing other things, I guess - but I was in a lazy mood. Sue called and said she wasn't going to the meeting, so I wasn't either, but my dad took the car, so I went with him, but before that I got the first decent supper I've had in a long time. Richard was there and he was real glad to get the words to the song. He asked me if I liked flowers for some reason (?) Gloria B was there and he talked to her, so I didn't get to say bye to him. But I guess I don't mind.

March 18
This is Sunday, but I'll write about what happened yesterday, because I was so tired when I got home. I had to be Superintendent at Church School and I really flubbed the dub, as I usually do. At church I sat upstairs, and Richard came up and asked me why I was sitting up there and I said "because the lights give me a headache when I sit downstairs" So he sat with me, and afterwards he was talking to me and stuff. While I was eating dinner, he called and said he was going to pick me up to go to singing bands with him, and I said ok. Jim A was with him and we goofed off etc. and sang at the rest homes and I played my Uke etc. and afterwards we took Sue home and Cheryle and I and Jim and Ricky went to the beach to watch the sunset (my suggestion) before the meeting and we had our own sundown worship. Then we went to the meeting and we took everybody home and went to Jim's house and looked at the stars. On the way home he gave me another one of his Wednesday night lectures, or whatever you call them.

March 19
What a completely full day! I got up at around 9:00 and I had to start watering the Dorcas lawn, because this warm weather is drying the grass up. Then I washed my sheets and then I washed my brother's sheets and cleaned my room up after three weeks - wow what a filthy mess!

I finished up most all of my homework. I still have some more I have to do, but not much. Then for some strange reason I got in this mood to pull weeds! Who likes to pull weeds??? Well, anyway, all the flowers were blooming and all the weeds sure ruin the effect. And I got 78 whole cents for doing it. Wow! Oh well, it was good for me. After I pulled weeds, I was filthy, so I took a bath. I haven't had one of those in a long time. Showers, but not baths, don't get me wrong. Then I read 25 chapters of Genesis and got some questions etc. to pop on Richard. I think that will make him happy! I went to Sue's and we watched TV. It's now 11:30.

March 20
Everybody got up early today because it's Monday. But today was Parent-Teacher conferences and we didn't have school today, oh well. I got up anyway, and I sat in the sun and did some embroidery until I got bored, and then I read some more in Genesis. After noon, I laid in the sun for 2 hours and got a beautiful tan (for the first one of the year) and then I took a cold shower. Very refreshing. I then read the rest of Genesis and after Supper Richard came over to see me, and I had on my rompers. I was a little embarassed. He came to tell me how to read the Bible. He was a little disappointed, I think that I started from Genesis, so he gave me a list of things and a daily reading thingie. Wow, do I dig on him! I don't care what everybody thinks.

March 21
School again. Always, always, always there is school. And I get more, and more, and more sick of it! Yeck. Oh well, I suppose we shoud try and get the best out of things we don't like. Oh well, I am getting satisfactory grades. I got them yesterday, but they're not final until Friday, so there is a slight chance that they can change. I'm getting 4 A's, 2 B's (B's in Geometry and Biology), and I'm not sure of my Drivers Ed grade.

All the boys (and Steven actually came) got to get off school this afternoon to go be pallbearers at an old man's funeral. Steven said he had never even been to a funeral before, so I can imagine how he must have felt carrying a dead persons body around - eck!

Mr. Mc has taken over girls PE - sick! That's all I can say. He had it last year too.

Richard called tonight and wanted me to go with him to a wedding reception, but I had too much homework.

March 22
About all I can remember about today is that I went to the meeting and the "Heritage Singers" were there, they put on a super program. Wow! Afterwards they had an altar call and you could just feel the Spirit. Wow! My legs made me get up and go up front, and Richard came up and we all held hands and sang "Side by Side". And afterwards he kept holding my hand. Oh it was SOOOO Great!!! Well, I didn't get home until 11:00 - end.

March 23
This is Friday, but I'll write what I remember of Thursday today! The reason I haven't been writing is because I never get home until 11:00 or 11:30.

Everybody - well almost everybody, brought their nets today and we went bug hunting in Biology. We were down by the swamp and Cheryle goes and falls in - it was so funny! It's a good thing she brought extra clothes! I wore my little girl dress and pigtails with knee socks to school today and to the meeting for Richard, because he insists on calling me "his little girl." After the meeting, we stayed for awhile at the church waiting for Marla's grandmother to come, and we were goofing off and having fun, after they left, I shifted the car all the way home to his house, and I met his mom and went in his room and we looked at stars and the moon until 11:00. (he has a telescope). It was really fun. Man do I dig on him. WOW!

March 24
Friday and the last day of school before Spring vacation, and also the end of the grading period. HELP. But I really think I made the Honor Roll except for Drivers Ed and I don't know about that. Classes were kinda mixed up because we wanted to get out early, so we had Biology instead of Chapel. Mr. H was gone so we had Mrs. S. Yeck. But it was easy.

Oh yes, Ricky called this morning, I left something at his house, but it was unimportant.

In Bookkeeping when we were done with our work, we got to go outside and I saw Richards' mom and we said "Hi", etc. Wow! I rode the bus tonight, but Richard didn't, but he was at the meeting. He came with somebody else. And he kept talking to everybody but me, so I went to sit down. I was almost bawling, but he sat by me and everything was sunshine! I went home with my dad in the car. Oh yes, I took a 2 hour sun bath - luxurious.

March 25
Today was communion and I told Mrs. T. last Thursday , I think, that I would play the piano for the Junior's , but I got out of it today, because the "Maranatha Singers" from MBA were here, so we all went to the adults to hear them. I sat with Richard, but during church, I sat with my mom and had communion with her.

After church, Richard wanted me to stay for the potluck, but I didn't want to. He also wanted me to go on singing bands with the Pathfinders, but I went with the S youth group instead, I'm really nice, right? And he asked me to go with him to Sunnyvale to hear E. C. and I said "yes". He picked me up at 6:00 and we went to the church to wait for some people, but they didn't come, so we decided to go for ourselves, even if we didn't know where to look or go. We got there and got lost. We stopped at several gas stations to ask for directions, and at one, he picked me a red rose (bad), very pretty, we got to the meeting at 8:30 - it was jammed packed - it was very good - So I had a very busy day!

March 26
I didn't have anything to do today. I mean nothing. Well, my mom had a garage sale out in front, so I kept myself scarce. At 11:00, I went out and took a sun bath and read "Teen Magazine" until 1:00, then I came in and read in my Bible, my lesson, morning watch etc. all afternoon - then I took a shower. At 4:00 Richard called and wanted me to go to Sunnyvale with him again; for the last meeting. So I said I would, but that I didn't want to that much. (There was a movie in the gym) Oh well. We must give up some things. I picked him a yellow rose. We went with The C's and the meeting was super. Afterwards we went to the "House of Pies" and we all ate pie - I got cherry. We soaked the rose I gave Richard in sugar, cream, ice, water, etc. (poor rose) and then he forgot it! Afterwards we were in a frivolous mood and we both bought some penny gum. All the way back was O.K. He had his arm around me - but whoopie! Love, Love, Love, Love.

March 27
I got up kind of early this morning because everybody is so noisy! But that's not the only reason, I got up to water the Dorcas lawn really, because the weather is so beautiful, even if it is a little windy and COLD at night. There was some frost last night. I did some Spring cleaning, but I didn't get rid of much stuff, mostly I just scrubbed things up, you know. And in the afternoon I started reading some more of the Bible. It really isn't that boring, once you get started - and it's even interesting. I'm learning a lot of new things and writing them all down in a note book. So I can go through them later. I got tired about half-way and fell asleep until 6:00, wow, that was good, but I'm still real tired and I can't figure out why? Maybe something is wrong with me? I don't know when I'll see Richard again - Strange - I hardly even think of Steven anymore. Oh yes, I finally got the pictures from Wawona (Yosemite) back!

March 28
Today, anyway this morning and this afternoon, were a little boring, because I didn't have anything planned, you know. Well, I finished up my smiley dress and that took all morning, and Mrs. S. came over and paid me for the Dorcas lawn. In the afternoon, I went to the gym and skated for awhile. It was boring doing it by myself. Then I practiced the piano and read my Bible etc. Richard came over right after he got off work, even before he went home. I picked him some flowers and we walked to the store to get some bread, and I persuaded him to stay for supper, since he wanted me to go to his house anyway to look at stars, etc. On the way to his house we stopped at the H's for awhile and when I got to Richards, I had to call Mrs. T, while Richard gave me some water and popped jelly beans in my mouth. We looked at stars and then at some of his things. He didn't want me to go home. Poor Beebee. I got home at 11:30.

March 29
Oh dear, I can't remember what I did today! Well, I know that in the afternoon, I went to Sue's and I talked to her for awhile, and then etc. Mom came home at 5:00 and Richard came over and brought me some purple african violets. The whole plants. Wow is he ever devoted. I was eating and he had to go home and get ready for the meeting. He caught the bus from my house, and after the meeting we sat outside and talked and played hop scotch, etc. and then he asked me if I had ever been kissed, and I told him about Ron, and he asked me if I cared if he touched me and I said no, and then he kissed me and I guess I was nervous or something and he started playing with my hair, and he goes, "did I embarassed you?" and I said - (nothing). And then he walked me to the door and kissed me good nite. Wow. GOOD NITE.

Post Script - Richard told me that he has epilepsy - very mild - so he doesn't have to go to the army.

March 30
I Love (inside a heart) Richard OXXXXO. My mom came in and woke me up early this morning, and I didn't feel like doing anything in particular, so I got out a jigsaw puzzle and I worked on that all morning, until Sue called and we were going to go play tennis, but her mom got involved in a rummage sale and me and Sue were driving her car all around the school yard. It was fun. Then finally at 3:30, she took us and we played tennis from 3:45-4:45, then we went and played around the play ground, and while we waited for her mom, we got some ice cream. It was all very fun. I wanted to go shopping tonight really bad, until Cheryle came over and practically tore my clothes off, and I put a dress on and was on the way to the meeting. Richard took his car, and I guess I pulled a muscle and my leg was sore, anyway. I went home with him, and he was really tired and my mom was standing there because Jenny, my brothers girlfriend is here, so he left early. sigh.

March 31
Today is the last day of March - no kidding. Funny, but I can't remember what I did today - oh yes, I can. Jenny was here and my brother was at work and so guess who has to entertain her? Me of course! But about all I did was go downstairs, and read a magazine all morning, and then I went upstairs and put together the jigsaw puzzle. And we were going to go play tennis in the afternoon, but my brother didn't have to work, so I got out of that. But I did get my shopping done.

Today was the last meeting of the "Reach Out For Life"series, it was pretty good, I guess. I sat with Richard in the 3rd row from the front. Donna came home with me and we got off in S. so Richard could take me home, but he also took Esther, and Otis home too. But I got to sit by him and I shifted all the way home and I was in the front, and Donna in the back. Donna and I went to bed at 12:00 because Jenny wanted to sleep, I think.

February 1, 1972
I just looked and looked for my black pen, but I couldn't find it - so this one will have to do - it's the one I used on my 8th grade diary. Steven came to school today and his excuse was not getting up on time and then his mom was going to take him , but his mom was sick, so she didn't. I ignored him all morning - I learned the above from Donna. It's funny, but every time he comes to school I have a lot to write about and run out of room. In the afternoon I talked to him though. After school I stayed over and wrote Mike a letter, it wasn't very good - so during the week I'll write a little every day and tell him what's going on etc.

The Chapel Singers were at the PTA meeting but they're sick, so me and Donna left and went to the third grade room to "study" and then I came home.

February 2
I have decided to forget about forgetting Steven - it's impossible and I told Otis I didn't like Steven anymore and after school I was in the room and Steven came in and then Otis came in and as Steven was going out Otis goes "What's this bad news I heard about you breaking up with (me)?" and Steven just stood there like he didn't know what was going on and I got so embarassed and I told Otis to "get out"! (Afterwards Donna told me that Steve thought it was funny and it made me MAD!!!!!)

February 3
I got my report card today and I got an A in Biology and P.E. and I only got 1 C (in Geometry). I didn't expect such good grades. In P.E. we didn't do anything, just shoot baskets, and all I did was sit in a chair and after school Otis came up to me (and Steven could hear) and said "I heard about you and Steven breaking up" and I got really mad! Steven didn't do anything.

Oh dear! My eyes are getting bad already!

After school Donna and I went shopping and I got $5.00 off my dad and I went to Penny's and got some green velveteen for some knickers and then Donna got a poster for her brother and I got Santana's "Oye Como Va"(a 45) I wanted it for sooo long! and then we went into a stationery store and I got a Valentine's card for Steve, Mike and Uwe. The class went swimming tonight, but I didn't go because I don't have a swimming suit.

February 4
Well, I broke my first New Year's Resolution today - the one about Steven. I give up! I quit! I don't like him any more and I don't have any feelings towards him, except every now and then. So I probably won't write much about him any more. I still think he's a doll. Wow! but that's all. So I don't know what I'll do with the Valentine's card, sign Donna's name and send it to him. She would get so mad, but I feel like doing it because he always acts like he likes her.

We are finishing our practice set in Bookkeeping and I got all the mistakes figured out, so I'm not too worried. In Biology we ran out of things to do, so we put chairs up in the gym for the movie Saturday night. It was fun. I went to the meeting at SC tonight and since it was raining, I wore pants , so did Sue. Afterwards, my mom stayed for a meeting and I got mad, so I came home with Arvie and Mom and Dad got home first!

February 5
I had to be Superintendent at Church and I forgot Ms. P because I didn't see her and afterwards she got all pushed and it made me mad! Steven came to church and I threw a gum wrapper at him and he got kinda mad, then I poked him to ask him if he was going to the movie tonight and he said he didn't think so, and he acted aggravated - crud! I just wanted to know! It makes me so God Damned Mad!!!! I got a letter from David today and I wrote him and Uwe a letter. Then I started reading"The Hittite" by Noel Greson - I've already read it, but it's good! After sundown, I started my knickers and the machine kept on acting like it needed to be oiled, but the thread was all wound up in the wheel thingie (sick!) I went over to the movie - hardly anybody was there and Donna was in a bad humor! I'm tired so I'll go....

February 6
Mom woke me up at 9:00 so I had to get up and wash my brother's sheets and then I cleaned my room and did some homework, but I didn't finish my practice set. Mrs. R called and wanted me to help them cut out Christmas cards to send to the Phillipines, so I did and then we had a spaghetti dinner - that was very delicious. I guess it was kinda fun, even if not many people came. Then it was 7:00 and I had to go to the school and help them with the movie - only about 8 people came - wow! sick! I don't even think it was worth it. Oh yes, I finished my knickers today, and I really like them! I wore them to the movie, but I think I made them just a wee bit short. Right now, I'm waiting for my brother to get out of the bathroom, so I can take a shower. It's 10:15. I sure wish he would hurry!

February 7
What a perfectly boring day - on the other hand, it wasn't too bad. Sue might have to have an operation in March on her spine - poor kid. In P.E. almost none of the girls dressed down - it was really funny. After school, Sue came over to get the gum wrappers and I put on my knickers and went to show Donna and everybody was laughing at me, but I didn't care! Then Donna and I came to my room to plan our room for next year (we are going to be roommates when we go to a (parochial) boarding school next year). We are going to do a "smiley face" theme. Then to prove to Donna that I don't like Steven (she still doesn't believe it - by the way, he was sick again). I sold the Valentine's card I got for him to my brother - she was kinda mad about that, but I don't care! My brother and I then went to the library to get some books, etc. I'm reading "So Dear to My Heart" by Sterling North. I saw the movie before. Ray is here now, it sounds like and my Brother is all turned on. He has a girlfriend.

February 8
I am sick, sick, sick, sick of this place. I want to escape. Leave. Get out of here or something! Sigh, but I can't.

Steven came to school today, sigh. I finished the first column in Geometry. Now I have to take the test and get a C on it, but I know I won't.

We have a Religion test tomorrow. I wrote Mike a 2 paged letter with the Valentine card. Isn't this interesting. Yuck. In Bookkeeping everybody went wild just about and Mr. H was getting rather exasperated, but I think he understands a little, but E.W. and Mr. Mc are too old. In P.E. the guys had to go outside because a guy was tearing up the stage. Somebody stole my sweater and Donna was dragging me around - it made me kinda mad! I can't think of anything else, so I'll end a very dull and discouraging day.

February 9
Today was 99% better than yesterday. I decided to be nice to Steven to see what happened and the results were marvelous - until Otis came around. Otis acts like he still owns me (Otis used to be my boyfriend a long time ago). I guess he is trying to make an impression on Steven, I don't know. He always goes "remember last summer" etc. and on and on. And I don't know what to do about it. Cindy T was gone and Michele brought some little cars and we (the girls) were racing them around and everything and Steven was trying to take a test or something and he thought we were weird, but I thought it was fun. In P.E. we had teams and Donna and Debra and I were on the same team and Michele and Debbie C and Jan and Marla were on the other and we were ahead most of the time, it was kinda fun, but Debbie is "something else." Nothing happened worth mentioning after school.

February 10
It was sure warm today, but it sure felt good. I wore my knickers to school today and not too many people laughed. Ed saw them and he kinda snickered so Steve looked and he snickered and then started laughing - it made me mad! Mr Mc. is giving us all extra points 180 and I have the least of anybody only 159 (or less). Everybody else has more and everybody had to laugh about that. In study hall I listened to "Spinning Wheel" by Credence on Mike's tape - it was good! In Biology since we were so good yesterday (ha ha) we got to go out and get some leaves. It was kinda fun really. Then since it was so warm and nice outside and the choirs were practicing, we played kick ball outside. It was O.K. After school me and Donna went shopping, but it was boring because we didn't have any money. We were looking for swimming suits, but I didn't like any.

February 11
GUESS WHAT???!!! Steven is getting baptized tomorrow at 5:00 and I'm so happy for him! In Geometry I have the first row all finished. Oh Mike C makes me sooo mad! In chapel today I sat in front of him and he kept on scooting my chair up and down - it made me mad and then he turned me around sideways and Steven and Ed were laughing - then Steven had pity and told him to "lay off" and he did for awhile. In Bookkeeping we are learning how to read data processing cards, etc. It's really neat! Donna and Cheryle got out of Bookkeeping and Biology because they had to practice for the program Saturday night. In Biology our group had to do an experiment - I can't even remember what it was about - oh yes, metabolism, then we watched 2 movies. After school I washed the dishes (shock!) and I went to the meeting and some dumb boys kept throwing things at me, but I ignored them.

February 12
What a day! It seems like everything is blah - then everything goes POW! Well, anyway, first I had to play the piano for the Junior's at Church, but Steven didn't come. Church was kinda normal, then when I went home, Cheryle called and asked me to go on a picnic with her - so I did. It was kinda fun, and I had some chicken , but it was cold and I didn't like it (I'm a vegetarian). Then I went to church to watch Steven get baptized, it was very beautiful (that's not the word) and his mother was crying and everything. Afterwards they had a social type thingie, but I didn't get a chance to talk to him and this old lady kissed him, it was funny! Richard H, a guy I used to have a crush on - he's 19 years old I think - was talking to me etc. and he took me to the program at school and he sat by me and I REALLY Dig him! WOW! I'll say more tomorrow, I think. I left for awhile and Sue said he put his arm around the chair where I was sitting and asked her where "his blue flower" went. So just maybee. Oh and I'm not running after him - he'll have to run after me!!!!

February 13
What a busy day! I got up at 9:00 and washed my sheets and cleaned my room somewhat. And I went to my mom's shop and got Donna a present - a candle - I guess she will like it. I decided to redo Timmy's thing so I did and transplanted some grass and then took him for a walk and fed him (he ate) I think he's coming out of his hibernation. This morning I did Biology and other homework. and Babes came in - he was gone for 5 days! and he smelled awful - so I gave him a bath - you should have heard him yowl! I took a shower and then I started reading a book Michele gave me last night called "Avalon" by Anya Seyton. It is VERY good! But it was only a condensed version - I will try to get the original. I didn't go to Sue's tonight.

February 14
Another boring school day - sigh! but this is Valentine's day! Also, Donna's birthday. She is a "love child" She liked her present a lot! I'm glad because I really didn't know what to get her. We had to to take a test in English and I got 74, not bad for the first time.

Guess what!!?? I got a Valentine's card from Mike. I'm so happy - it has a picture of a real cute hairy dog on a chair and it says "You are one of a kind" (turn page) "The Special Kind" Luv Ya Lots, Mike. Wow! I hope he likes the one I sent him. And I'm glad I didn't give Steven a card because he didn't give me one.

We played kick ball in PE today and our team won! My brother was telling me all about his trip to Arroyo Grande and he gave me a "Mad" magazine and a B.C. Funny Book to read. He stayed in Salinas because he took the bus.

February 15
Donna got two Valentine's, one from Mike and one from Ed. I think we are the only ones in the whole class that got one besides Ed. Mike C brought me a Continental Mark III "Hot Wheels" car. It's really neat - purple in fact. (The significance of this is that Steven's parents have a Continental Mark III - white)

I decided to start the Geometry test and so far I got them all right. Ed got an A. Steven was gone today. In Biology since we were so "quiet" yesterday, we didn't have any quizzes and he says if we keep it up, we won't have to take the final exam - oh I hope - but Cheryle has been gone though too. In P.E. we had it outside because they are redoing the stage. Our team won, again!

After school I just did nothing - read a book "The Valley of God" by Irene Patai - it's really good - about the Prophet Hosea. I took a bath - I usually take a shower.

February 16
Umm - Poor Mike, he was the only boy at school today. Cheryle and Yvonne were back - so it was noisy again and I think Mr. H was getting a little perturbed about it - oh yes, Debbie was gone too - so I didn't have anybody to bug - but she always bugs me too - so that was kinda a relief. I got a letter from Dorcas today and I'm starting to write one back.

After school, Sue came over and got the brown pants from the rummage sale (the ones that were Otis's) for ten cents - they fit her better than me anyway. Donna came over and showed me their family pictures. They are O.K. Oh yes, Michele came over this morning, and I almost died! I went grocery shopping and got some leotards and some socks that have stop signs on them. They're real cute. Tomorrow is mom's birthday.

February 17
Today is mom's birthday - she is now 47. Michele came over again this morning - I don't know why all of the sudden she starts coming over. Ed was back but Steven wasn't. If anybody is gone more than seven days in a nine week period, they can get a failure in all classes - but I don't think he knows that.

After school, I started fixing the enchiladas-real good. Last night mom wouldn't let me get a certain spice, so I went and got it myself. I was crying because of all the onions. It took a long time to make them, but apparently everbyody liked them, the way they ate. My brother had three. That was the birthday present from me to her, because I didn't have any money.

There was supposed to be recreation tonight, but nobody showed up, so they called it off and me and Sue studied and played games - chess and rummy.

February 18
Friday at last, and no school Monday! I wore my tights to school today with my red, white, and blue dress. I guess it looked OK. Steven came to school today - and he wasn't even sick - the only reason he came today is because he doesn't like to stay home on Friday's. Mr H. put up Bookkeeping and Biology grades. I'm 5th in Bookkeeping and 3rd in Biology. I think those are very good grades. I also finished the Geometry test, I got a C in that. Now I get to go on to the next chapter. We had a test in Bookkeeping and I bet I flunked. In Religion, we had a test and I think I missed three - not bad. After school I finished reading "Valley of God" and started reading "Pitcairn Island". It's OK. I got out my clarinet (shock) and I set my hair (shock).

February 19
I went to Church, hardly anybody was there - Richard or any of those guys. I invited Cheryle over for dinner and we wanted to go driving, but we didn't have enough gas - it made me kinda mad! So we went to the animal shelter and then to Sue's where we tried out all of her wigs. Then we went to the Dorcas lawn and sat for awhile and my brother came and took us all on a motorcycle ride and while we were doing that, Michele came over, but she left, so we all went exploring in a field, but Sue wouldn't come because it has a sign that said "Keep Out" It made me kinda mad. Anyway, me and Cheryle had fun - in the meantime Sue was with my brother. He picked her up and took her around - all over. Me and Cheryle came back to my house and we were drinking root beer and we started acting silly - laughing etc. It was funny. Sue called and wanted to tell me about it, but Mrs. S came over and wanted me to take care of her yard etc. while they are gone on vacation - so Cheryle and I went with her, and then to Sue's and Michele and Ranele and Cindy came over there and they were all wearing the wigs. Then we ran to the school from there so we wouldn't miss the movie - it was good "My Friend Flicka" I read the book before. It was an ancient movie!---The end.

February 20
Last night around midnight, my brother came in and woke me up and asked me if it was OK if his girfriend came over and I said that was fine. So she stayed in my room. She is now too. She lives in Arroyo Grande and her name is Jenny. I got up at about 9 and had to wash his sheets, then I cleaned up my room - boy did it need it! I then proceeded to do my study's, but that doesn't turn me on too much and since there is no school tomorrow, I gave up. I started to make my tennis rompers, but I didn't finish. Then I took Timmy for a walk and fed him. I played some tennis etc. etc.

Ray came over and I left (not really because of him though). I went to Sue's and we played some chess, then we went to Terry's until now 12:59. The end.

February 21
My dream came true! Cheryle called at 8:30, I was half asleep, but I got up anyway. She asked me to go to Eastridge (shopping mall) and I said sure! Mom gave me $5.00 and we left, and I love that place! It's really far out! Evertything is inside, you never have to go outside to go to another store. We just goofed off until around noon and we went to a Cafeteria in Penny's. Then Cheryle and I got tired of shopping, so we went ice skating - it was different! And I only fell once - when I tried to go backwards. It was fun. Then we left and I got a viking ship and a turtle for my collection. We left Eastridge and went to a pie place and had a hot fudge sundae - but it was way too rich for me! It was a fun day.

I Finally got a letter from Uwe! But we had to go to school, ick! and it was very boring! Steven was gone, but that's not why it was boring, it was because I guess I was thinking about all the things I could have been doing instead.

Me and Donna filled out our applications for our rooms etc. for next year. Sue still doesn't know, but I've got to tell her.

The new Principal came around and looked at the school. I guess he's not as handsome as I thought, but he's a great improvement over our current one, that's a cinch.

After school, I wrote David a letter, finished Dorcas's and wrote Uwe one which didn't leave me much time for study (Biology test). Oh yes, Michele came over and trimmed my hair while I listened to her record that Bernd sent her from GDR (German Democratic Republic).

February 23
What a perfectly yeck day! Oh we did something different in worship - a quiz thingie and everybody in my row left, but I did very well! In Religion on that test we took, I got an A. I missed 2. In Drivers Ed, the school got a new projector, but it wouldn't work, so we used the old one. In Biology on the test I missed 14 out of 70, I think that's real good! Maybe an A. I hope. In P.E. it was 9th vs the 10th grade in a kickball game and Mr. Mc was on their team - we won 26:0. We got them out 1-2-3. After school Mr. Mc said he caught me chewing gum during P.E. yesterday, so I had to scrub the sinks, but I said I had to leave and I went to water the S's. yard and plants - even if it did rain this morning. On the way I got some leaves. We went to Sears and got a new dryer (finally) tonight and I re-ordered the shoes.

February 24
Steven came to school today, and today is when everybody went to Bible camp. They left at 12:30 and after that everything was a blast. We were all goofing off and talking to Steven and catching up on all the news, etc. The kids going to the Bible camp were in a van with a camper and Steve was laughing and laughing and I asked him why and he goes "why do they need a bed?" it kinda shocked me - coming from him! Then we went out and played some 4 square. Then in Bookkeeping we had a riot! But Mr. H got a little mad! In P.E. we played volleyball - yuck. After school, I had to avoid Mr. Mc, so I was out front and was talking to Sue and Steven went by and I said something and bye and him and his dad were sitting in the car and I couldn't figure out why, because Vivian, the girl that rides with them was at the Bible camp. So I went over and asked him what he was waiting for, and him and his dad go "Yeah, we just remembered" and I laughed and laughed. Steve's dad sounds real friendly, even if he doesn't look that way. After that I went home and fed Timmy and read Pitcairn's Island. Then mom came home and she got me some lace material and some print material really cool newspaper print enlarged with trees.

After supper we went to W. to get some junk. I was looking for this pattern in McCall's and couldn't find it, and some friends came along and we looked through ALL the patterns, but they didn't have it so we went to a fabric place and they had it - only it was a Butterick pattern - Sick! I got it for my smiley material.

February 25
Today was quite a bit like yesterday afternoon. Anyway, to begin with, only half of the kids were there. Steven and Yvonne were gone - then Yvonne came and then (shock) Steven came in and everybody just stared and stared - it was kinda funny. We played a game through Literature and in Algebra we got in a big argument with Mr Mc. Oh how I dislike him! In Religion we stayed oustside and played six-square as long as we could. In Chapel, we watched a pretty good movie, on winter in Canada. The reason Steven was late is because he rode his bike. In lunch we played six-square and Steven got me out EVERY single time - it made me MAD! In bookkeeping, we had the practice set test and Mr H put the grades up. I'm 2nd in Bookkeeping (ahead of Donna) and 4th in Biology. In Biology about all Mr. H talked about was how people go to the bathroom in Korea and Japan (too bad the boys didn't tape it) it was gross. Then we watched a movie. I got a letter from Mike!!! I finished Pitcairn's Island - it was GOOD!!

February 26
Church was boring! Steven was there, and he got a really cool yellow striped shirt - he'll probably wear it "if" he comes to school on Monday. After lunch I decided to put Timmy outside to get some sun, but I didn't put anything over the top of his cage, and we went for a drive to MBA and Eureka Canyon etc. and when I came back - the turtle (Timmy) was gone! Either a bird, or a cat got it - poor Timmy! and I wanted to keep him for a year to show that it could be done!

I went to the move "To Russia with Love" I've already seen it, but I think it is good! Richard was there and he was sitting with Tracy, it made me a little mad. But Mark was there and you know how he is - that made me mad too!

Skating was a blast! I won the girls race by about a lap and in the winners race - I came in 2nd (girls vs guys) Chariots race with Brad - 2nd. I think he is so cool! But he's too young (shucks!) Esther was showing me how to do all kinds of things and I fell and Mr H. went over me. After it was over Sue and I went for a walk around the block and we told Kim and Sheryl we were going to Stockton to see some guys. When I got home it was 10:00 and my dad was kinda pushed, but I said I went to the store and changed the subject. So I got off pretty well.

February 27
Today was a packed day. I got up at about 9:00 I guess, and I washed my sheets and cleaned up my room a bit and read the papers and did my homework and made my bed and vacuumed the steps. By that time it was lunch and I was starved. Then I went to the flea market and swiped a couple of books from my mom - a Readers Digest Condensed and "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens. Then I went with dad and Aunt Arla to her shop and I got some buttons and a zipper at Sears. Then dad dropped me off at the S's and I watered their plants and it was very HOT today! and I was all sweaty as I walked home. I changed into my rompers and played some tennis and then I skated. I tried some of the things Esther showed me, but I couldn't. I started making my pants tonight. My brother got Bill Cosby's "To Russell My Brother Whom I Slept With" record - it's funny!

February 28
What a boring day- I wish I could have stayed home! It seems like everybody was mad! about something. So I just sat around and read "Summer of '42" It is real good - kinda dirty though. Mr. Mc checked my papers wrong and Cindy and Ed's right and we had the same things exactly written down. Then Yvonne got in a big fight with him and she left. It was kinda funny, but I feel exactly the same way she does.

Strange, it's raining. After school, I read "Summer of '42" and Cheryle came over and I had to go to Pathfinders with her- I'm supposed to be her Junior Counselor or something. It was boring, even if Richard was there. I guess that's about all.

February 29 - Leap Year Day
Today was a pretty normal day. Yvonne came to school today which kind of surprised me. Donna was sick, I guess. I finished "Summer of '42" and it was super! It was funny kinda, but I felt sorry for "Hermie" sometimes.

I asked Mike if he would get a tennis racket from Darell, so Me and Sue could play tomorrow. And Ed said he would bring his. I was kinda surprised really. I got the third highest score in Bookkeeping test, shock. I was very surpsied! In P.E. we got out of most of it to watch the boys basketball tournament. I was on the white team with Steven and Ed and I was yelling "Steve, Steve, Steve, and Ed, Ed, Ed" all the way through. Yellow won - blast! I was so mad! and so was Steven and Ed and everybody. Steven was dripping sweat. Wow! I kinda think he likes me little again. I have reasons to believe it. After school Sue came over and we were listening to Bill Cosby and Otis called and asked me for a date and like dunce I said "OK" Uck! I'm working on my pants - and they are almost finished.

I still can't believe it. Well, not much happened really. I went to church and sat by Michele and she sat by Dwight. Wow, is he tall and cute and his hair is even a mite longer. Oh well.

I finished the first volume of "Gone with the Wind" - it was good and I started on the second part.

There was a movie at the school tonight (shock). Toby Tyler - I've read the book and it wasn't the same really, oh well, it was good.

I got two of KMBY radio (list) top 124 songs of 1971 today - I sent for them. It's now 11:30, so I'll go to bed now. I HATE Ray! For the aggravating things he does!!!!

This is leap year - so I can ask any guy if he will marry me - but who????

I'm going to say something that I won't tell anyone so I'll write it. It's my hand - something is wrong with the nerves - they keep jumping and it scares me. I hope it's not what grandpa has. I guess I should tell, but I won't.

Today I mostly got ready for school - homework - making my bed, and cleaning my room, etc. Then I finished my dress, but it makes me look like a cow - it's cute till you try it on then ick! But I have to take the sleeve out and put new elastic in because it was too tight.

My New Year's resolutions (some of them) are... To lose 10 lbs and get Steven if it takes all year. To get a good job and get a better personallity. I can't put it down in words, but I know what I mean.

I went to Sue's and watched TV, Walt Disney, Jimmy Stewart, Bonanza and part of the Bold Ones. They were all very good. It's 11:00 now and school is tomorrow, so I'll get some shut eye. Tomorrow I see Steven - Hurray!

January 3
Well, I got my hearts desire today - Steven. But, I acted cool towards him. He got his hair trimmed and a new coat - that I drool over. It's what I had pictured for him. He got a tape recorder for Christmas - so did Mike & Ed too though. Cindy Z came to school, so did everybody in the class. In Bookkeeping we are starting the practice set, ugh. It's not bad so far, but we just started. Steven couldn't believe that Ed sent me a card. It was funny. In P.E. all the girls that got a pin from Sue wore them on their suits. It's cool.

After school, Ray was bugging me up so bad - he makes me so sick I could scream (and I do). He keeps jabbing me in the ribs. I picked up the reprints at Long's they're sick - oh well. I guess I'll read some "Gone with the Wind" it's 9:15.

January 4
All the boys, Ed, Mike and Steven brought their tape recorders to school today and that's about all they could talk about - it was rather sickening. But, Steven talked to me too. Oh dear, I can't think of anything else that happened today. Nothing much, I can assure you.

After school, I was going to go home and do the practice set, but Donna came, so we sat around and talked until 5:00, and I deliberately refused to say goodbye to Steve to see if he would wave or anything and he wouldn't and it made me sooo mad!! So I have decided not to pay any attention to him, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to write about him.

Donna and Michele came over tonight (PTA) and we sat around and read books and then we went over and watched the rest of a movie they showed. I'll go now...

January 5
Steven didn't come to school today (a not unusual story). I MISS him! So nothing much unusual happened today. In Biology we had something a little different. We all picked teams and we went to the board and the team that got the most answers right won. Our team won (of course).

In PE we had a drill down. After school nothing happened, so I read "Gone with the Wind". I'm not sure I like it or not and I'll try to finish it tonight. Mom and Dad made me wash the dishes and the dishwasher overflowed, but I'm not going to clean it up. Hee Hee Hee Ha Ha. I got some pictures in the mail today. They were sick - of me and Cheryle. Ray was bugging me to death and I could scream - a-a-a-a-a-a-h-h-h-h.

January 6

Wow! I amost forgot to write, but I didn't. Steven came to school today, and I was so surprised! He wasn't sick, his mom was. I tried to ignore him like I said, but it was impossible. He made me help him do his Bookkeeping and he needed it badly! So there goes my plan. Donna is all mad at me for I don't know why, but she was in a bad mood today anyway, so maybe it wasn't my fault.
I didn't have anything to do after school today, so I decided to write down all the things I know about Steven and it took 4 1/8 pages. And I'll write more as I learn more. I went to the library and got some OK books. This is Ray's last night here and I'm glad, but I might miss him, who knows. I also had to get some cookies for the bake sale. It's only 9:30 and I'm going to bed!

January 7
I'm just about ready to give up on Steven, but it's impossible, I think. He likes Donna by the way he acts, and I wish I didn't care so he could like her. I'm also about ready to give up on my practice set, but I guess I should at least try for a B- or C. Pastor M talked in chapel. Mike has a Mickey Mouse watch like mine only it's bigger. And guess who I got a letter from?! Uwe!! He sent a huge letter with a lot of things in it. I wish mom would let me send a lot of things but "it costs too much" sickening. I went to the meeting at Arvie's tonight. It was o.k. I guess. A cute guy came named Peter or Paul (I can't remember) was there and afterwards we all had some cake - it was good (shame on me) Michele's dad took me home.

January 8
What a day! Church school was sick and Michele and I ditched and sat up in the bathroom and decided we'd better go back before we got caught. Church was just as bad, I sat by Michele and Steven came I almost died, who cares about him though. They had a film first and then a sermon, so we got out late. I went to visit grandma, but we didn't stay and mom and dad went to church so I stayed home and fixed my face (mask). There was a movie tonight "Trouble with Angels" it was super with Haley Mills in it. Wade (an old boyfriend) sat by me during the first part - he has sure changed - he's a lot taller and he looks better too. Never mind what happened after the movie -0h it makes me sick to think about it. Oh yes, Ray was down.

January 9
I woke up so-o-o- early this morning and I couldn't get back to sleep, so I gave up and got up (I'm a poet and didn't know it). I did Bookkeeping all morning and I almost finished it, but my back started hurting, so I didn't do any Biology or Literature. That means I'll have to do it later and I don't want to. Then I listened to "Tommy" it lasts for about 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's a set of 2 records (The Who - Rock Opera Tommy). Then I wrote Uwe a letter and sent him all kinds of things. My Mickey Mouse watch isn't working too cool, and I didn't realize it was so late, so I took a shower and listened to the Beatles album "Magical Mystery Tour" that I borrowed from Mike. Then I ate and went to Sue's and watched TV. I couldn't stay for Bonanza boo hoo. She let me read Bill's letter - it was good, and he gave Sue an address of his friend, so I'm going to write to him his name is Bill M.

January 10
Steven was at school at 7:40. I was kinda surprised when I saw him, because he NEVER comes early! But I didn't go over there until 8:45 because I'm starting to "get over him" I am literally getting sick of him, if you know what I mean (if you can believe that). But I still like him for a friend - don't get me wrong. In fact I didn't do Bookkeeping to sit across from him. Oh well, He's too cute!!!

Michele came over this morning to listen to "Magical Mystery Tour" and then I mailed Uwe's letter. In P.E. we had a drill day and we had to do all kinds of weird things. I sure like this pen. After school, I did Bookkeeping and wrote Bill a letter. I hope he writes back. Well, I guess that's all that happened so I'll close this day and go to bed!

January 11
Oh my aching muscles (from PE). I can hardly move. Steven was in a good mood today. I mailed Bill's letter today, he should get it Friday or Saturday. I didn't get any mail at all. A lot of us went to the library to do some Bookkeeping and the Principal came in and had a cow, so we can't go to the library anymore. It makes me sick. In P.E. we had a full day and all the girls were playing whoever gets the ball shoots it and Steven was there (shock he dressed down) and it was really fun, but afterwards, I amost said goodbye, but I shut my mouth, but he didn't say anything either (sigh!). I didn't eat anything all day except some mushrooms for supper and they aren't agreeing with me (urp!). I went to the library and got some records. They're ok.

January 12
Let's see, what happened today...Oh yes! Me and Mike got Steven all riled up, we kept taking his things and he got madder and madder and I didn't like that, so I gave him his things back. I was reading Donna's "Teen" magazine it has all kinds of good things in it. Steven sat by me in Drivers Ed and I accidently kicked his foot and for some dumb reason, I started turning all red? weird. We had a Drivers Ed quiz and I missed almost all of them - it was awful! and tomorrow we are having a Biology Quiz - sicker yet. In P.E. we did almost the same thing as yesterday, until after exercises then the girls and guys split up. It was boring. Free throws the whole time, and after school Steven said bye to me first! It makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

January 13
Oh, boo hoo hoo hoo hoo!!! Steven is MAD!!! at me and it's all Mike's (& mine) fault, just because all this week we kept taking his things and I put his coat in the closet it was the last straw and he exploded. Oh, I feel sooo awful about it!! And he was starting to act like he liked me. Oh! And I can't cry, and I wish I could, it would make me feel so much better. Oh, I hate myself. I don't know what to do. I flunked the Biology test like I said and we went shopping, but all I can think about is him and, if I ever had a chance I lost it now. After school I went out front and he looked at me and looked away as fast as he could. Oh, boo hoo hoo. I told Ed to tell him not to be mad at me.

January 14
Today was somewhat better than yesterday he acted mad at first, but when I asked him if he was still mad, he said no, and then everything was better - altho' I have a lot of building up to do before he will like me again. We took a test in Literature and nobody got an A so that's that. In chapel Eld P from W talked - it was pretty good. In lab we watched a movie and have some projects and looked through the microscope. After school I went out the door with Steven and he didn't say bye or anything. So might send him a Valentine's card so he will know I like him. I went to the meeting at Arvie's tonight. It was a weird one. Nobody said anything so we just sat there. Bore. I'm glad Donna didn't come.

January 15
I confess I'm a bad girl! I didn't go to Church school. Me, Michele and Cindy went up into the bell tower and had our own. Even after all Arvie said, Oh well. Steven's parents came to church today, but Steven didn't, Oh, I don't know what to do! His mom smiled at me tho' and I was going to ask where Steve was, but I chickened out. After church, I just sat around and read a book, then I went shopping with my mom and then I went to the movie over at the school, no admission, Donna made me eat her supper and I was already so full, now my stomach hurts. ouch! That's life. The movie was OK something about a silver fox and 4 cartoons that were pretty good. It's 11:00 so I'll cut out P.S. The weather is heavenly.

January 16
What a boring day! I got up at 8:30 and washed my sheets and cleaned my room and made my bed and did my homework (part of it anyway). My handwriting is getting atrocious! Oh well, I can read it (sometimes if I try hard). And I'm getting this awful cold. Oh, I feel sooo miserable! After I did my homework, I finished reading a book I was reading and started a new one called "Sword Unsheathed." It's pretty good. Then I had supper, then I went to Sue's and then to Terry's (her brother's). He has a color TV. Everything we watched was good. Oh yes, I took a shower, whoopie! and right now I'm writing in this and then I will go to bed and have some sweet dreams about Steven (I hope). It's 10:30 - bi - Oh yes, tomorrow is Uwe's birthday.

January 17
Well, that miserable cold kept me and Cindy T and Steven out of school and I was going to call him and have a companionable talk, but I didn't. It was a rather miserable day all in all. Oh yes, My grandmother died at approximately 3:00 this afternoon, of a stroke. (my mothers' mother), but she didn't know and right now our church pastor is downstairs with my parents. She will be buried in her home state. I don't want to go see her, I'd rather remember her the way she was - very unexpected! That's all I can think of to write down. I didn't get a letter from anybody a-h-h-h-h-!!! Oh well. Maybe tomorrow. It's 9:15 and if I go to school I will want to feel better than I do now.

January 18
I went to school today, even if I wasn't feeling too cool, and besides a death in the family, but I couldn't stand another boring day like yesterday. Steven didn't come to school today which is nothing out of the ordinary. Ummm. I also got out of PE and finally finished my Bookkeeping - can you believe it? Neither can I . I got a letter today from Dorcas. It was OK. My aunt is coming from Hawaii and right now it's 12:30 a.m. and my dad and brother went to get her in San Francisco so this really isn't the 18th anymore it's the 19th. My brain is all washed out so I guess I'll go to bed and dream (?). "It's been one of those nights...." David Cassidy song.

January 19
I didn't go to school this morning because of the funeral, it was pretty good, although not many people were there - eleven I think. I didn't cry - almost, but not quite. Afterwards I went on over to school, although I didn't have to. But I didn't have anything else to do. Cindy T gave me her chili beans and Mr. Mc gave me his corn bread, so I had a free hot lunch - pretty good. I got out of PE too. But Steven didn't come. After school I talked to Donna until 5:15 (we were supposed to lock the door and leave). And tonight me and my brother were acting kinda strange, and Michele called and I went to the meeting. It was OK, but boring. Now I'm waiting for my brother to get out of the bath - it's 9:35.

January 20
Oh dear, what a boring day - seems like they all are lately! I got out of the Religion test today, but I'll have to take it tomorrow. Donna was sick today, her cold settled in her ear and she got a real bad earache. Mike and Ed put a bunch of paper in Steven's desk and it made me mad, so I cleaned it out , but they put the whole trash can in it with snot rags and drippy milk cartons and paper plates, it made me sick, so after school, I cleaned it out and threw all the stuff away, and Mike thought I threw his books away, so he was calling me all kinds of names - it was funny! I went shopping tonight and guess who I saw? Steve C. I haven't seen him since last August, right after school started, but he made me sick, so I left. I have to study now, bye.

January 21
I just measured my hair and it is 21 inches long - not bad huh? Yesterday I wrote Steven a letter in case he didn't come to school today, I would send it. Well he didn't come to school today, so I sent it. He should get it tomorrow. This is the last day of the grading period, and we had a Geometry test (I got an F) only 2 people passed, so I don't feel so bad. And we had a Religion test. I probably flunked that too, I'm not sure. Everybody was at school today, except for Steven. Poor baby. In Biology we worked on some experiments, it was kind of dumb. It was O.K. tho' really. It seems like everything is dull without Steven. sigh! I got a letter from David today. Mike wasn't mad or anything. I went to the Evangelistic meeting at S.C. tonight. Sue was there. - Oh my throat hurts!

January 22
Today was pretty good for a Saturday. It is usually outrageous. Church School and Church was boring and Steven wasn't at church (thanks God). After church a little bratty girl came over, I don't even know her name. But, we went to the animal shelter and I got so engrossed in the puppies that I left and went to Sue's (there was a real cute puppy - a scottie - I loved it - but it was mean! and there were some chihuahua's). Then we went to my house and Kim's grandmother came by and we went with her to get Leroy and then we went to a field by the cemetery and I got a huge! mushroom and some algae at the swamp. Then we went back to Sue's to wait for skating, but the Principal butt called it off because of the meetings and all kinds of people came from other churches and it made me mad! So I went to the meeting and got bored stiff. My dad had to sit in the balcony so we couldn't do anything, but I did anyway. In fact we went to the bell tower, but everybody was so loud that we left and went for a walk and came back and made a lot of noise and made my dad mad. I thought he would lecture me on the way home, but he didn't. I guess I'll go to bed now. I don't have anything else to do.

January 23
I woke up at 7:00 and couldn't get back to sleep, boy was I mad! But I didn't get up until ten. I didn't have any homework, so I spent my morning cleaning my room, washing my brother's sheets and vacuuming the stairs. This morning the mushroom was full of worms, I hope it lasts through tomorrow. Me, Cheryle, Sue, and Esther were going to go ice-skating today, but we couldn't. It made me mad so I sat around and read a dumb book.

I went to Sue's and we went to Terry's to watch Walt Disney, a special of Andy Williams and Peggy Fleming -it was super. Oh I loved it and then we watched the Bold Ones - that was real good too. It's 11:30 and tomorrow is a school day, so I'll hit the u-know. and I get to see Steven! Finally (if he's not stilllllll sick!!)

January 24
All in all today was a pretty good day. Steven came to school and he has so many tests to take before Wednesday, you can see his eyes swim. Oh well, it was good to see him. Ummm There is a new girl in the eighth grade and man is she weird, they call her the freak. I don't think that is very nice though. In Drivers Ed. the instructor forgot about it so we just sat there - it was funny.
I went to the library tonight and got some good books! And then I went to Pathfinders with Cheryle and they want me to be a counselor. I said they were crazy, but I'll think about it. I told my brother they wanted some counselor's and he's over there now signing up, I guess. My brother and I are getting along better - at least we talk to each other! I guess I'll read my book "Surf with Me" by Carle Lahlan (can't read my writing!)

January 25
We had the room rearranged today and I sit in the back corner - the furthest one away from Steven, Oh I could cry. I can't even talk to him now, hardly. I had a chance to sit behind him, but I thought it would look funny. But during study hall I sat by him and he was using a pen he swiped from me and I asked him if I could use my pen and he said O.K. and that it would be "our" pen. I liked that! We are having a "week of prayer" type thingie with Elder K for the ones who haven't been baptized yet from the 5-10 grades.

In P.E. we played some dodge ball. It was fun and to get in the wash-room we had to get hit by the ball, it was kinda dumb. I took a shower and curled my hair for Steven, I wonder if he will notice? I doubt it. I am starting to get sick of my hair, I have the notion to cut it off, but I won't!!
January 26
How can today be worse than yesterday? well it was! The meeting today was about smoking, and they had this thing where you sign up to talk to the pastor and Steven and Mike (can you believe that? I sure can't) are going to visit the Pastor tomorrow at 11:00 and I am so proud! But I ignored him all day, and I will keep on ignoring him! My hair was curly for about an hour today - sigh and after all that work! In Bookkeeping, I was saying shut up and telling everybody how sick they made me especially to Steven and Mr. H goes and says "That's sure not what you said when Steven was sick" - and I got so mad and embarassed! I don't know what Steven did and I don't think I really care! I was a good girl, I went to the meeting, but I sat and read a book the whole time. It is finally starting to rain!-----------------------

January 27
I've decided to give up Steven and I hope I can stick with it. I still love him a lot, but it's not worth it for him, I mean. Me and Sue have this thing planned up - we are going to write David H a letter only by some made up person - just to get him all turned on etc. It will be funny. After school I was waiting for Sue so we could get some mushrooms for Biology tomorrow and Donna said "and Steve" that made me real mad! So I left and Steven came out of P.E. and Donna said something to him and he kept walking and I looked the other way and I think (not sure) he looked at me kinda strange. Ray came down and my brother said to him "Violet sure doesn't say much about Steven any more" I thought it was funny. My brother went with him for the weekend. I went to the cemetery and got the mushrooms, then I went ot Sue's and goofed off. with the letter, and records, and pictures, etc.

January 28
Oh, thank God Steve didn't come to school today - because I wasn't supposed to talk to him - now I won't see him for 3 days or longer and that will help me forget him a little, I hope. Mike was the only boy at school today, because Ed and Donna and Debra and Cheryle were all gone, so we didn't have much of a class - but I like it better this way. This was the last of the meetings at school. They were pretty good. In Bookkeeping we didn't do too much, we looked at some things under the microscope etc. Then in Biology we went to the library and watched this movie twice - it was o.k. About microscopic animals etc. Kathi B ( The girl we took to Washington State with us) and Sharon C are coming to our school (since yesterday). After school, I started reading "Emily of Deep Valley" by Maud Lovelace - it is pretty good and I finished it too.

January 29
I went to church as usual and it was boring as usual - the back row in the balcony was full, so I sat in the next one up and Steven's parents came in and sat in front of me. Steve is sick, I guess, but I didn't say anything to them. After church I went to get the mail and would you believe I got a letter - from Mike. Then we went to the UCSC campus to show my aunt and then we went down W Street and saw Steve's house - it's not the first time, but I got a better view of it.

I wrote a letter to Dennis B (the guy we took to Washington) for kicks, I don't know if he'll write back or not.

There was a movie in the gym tonight, and it was good, I saw it before, but I can't remember what the name is. It's real sad and all the girls were bawling - it was funny. Afterwards I was listening to my radio and mom got mad, so I locked the door and she started pounding it - made me mad!

January 30
I got up at a leisurely 9:30 this morning and washed my sheets and swept the floor etc. then I decided to write Mike a letter, but I gave up - I'll write later - Then I decided to play some tennis, so I went over and all these people started coming to a meeting or something, but I kept playing for about two hours - I found out later that they were showing a new Principal-elect I guess you would call him - he looks cool - really tall and dark , but he's married and young too - something this school needs!

Then I read some Exodus - it's good and took a bath and then my hip started hurting like it always did last summer - I think it's the tennis - shucks! ouch!!! I went to Sue's and we went to Terry's to watch TV until 11:30 - I think I should go to bed - agreed?

January 31
Steven wasn't in school today sigh! Donna and Debbie and Ed and everybody that went to camp had fun. I mailed the letter to Dennis and I have to get a letter off to Mike. We watched a movie for Driver's Ed. It was pretty good. And I got out of P.E. because of my hip, so I went to the library and made an attempt to write Mike a letter, but I gave up. Then I came home and started reading "Heaven to Betsy" it's OK - by something Lovelace. Till Mrs. P came over and wanted somebody to go the Dorcas with her to be a body guard so-to-speak. She gave me a bunch of magazines to look at, I looked at those for awhile. Oh! Sue got a letter from Bill H. her fiance' then I took a shower and now I will look at magazines until 9:30.
